Target shuts down stores due to rising crime rates

Yesterday, Target announced it would close nine stores in four states because of theft and organized retail crime. The stores closing are located in New York City’s East Harlem neighborhood, Portland (three stores), Seattle (two stores), and the San Francisco Bay area (three stores). Target made this decision due to concerns for the safety of its customers and employees. However, the company will still operate 150 stores in these markets. The closures will be effective on October 21st, and affected employees will be given the opportunity to transfer to other stores.
