As per a recent report by Fox5NY.com, Mount Sinai Health System has announced the closure of its Beth Israel hospital located at 16th Street. The primary reason cited for this decision is the hospital’s financial losses of over $1 billion in the last ten years.

According to the report, Mount Sinai has revealed to FOX 5 NY that despite increasing labor and supply costs, their patient volume has significantly decreased, with the hospital only functioning at 20% capacity and facing an annual loss of $150 million. District 74 Assemblyman Harvey Epstein has expressed concern over the declining healthcare options in Lower Manhattan, with nearly all healthcare facilities having closed in the past 25 years. He added that the closure of Mount Sinai would be a significant setback for the community.

It’s worth mentioning that there are ongoing endeavors being made to rescue the hospital. However, there is currently no information available regarding their effectiveness.
