Police Arrest Two 16-Year-Olds in Westport Carjacking and Retrieve Stolen Vehicles

Fairfield County authorities have pressed charges against two teenagers, both 16, for the violent carjacking and assault of the car’s owner. The incident has been reported to be brutal in nature.

A teenager has been arrested by the Westport Police on Tuesday, September 19th, for his alleged involvement in a carjacking that occurred on Bayberry Lane on Sunday, September 17th, around 3:50 p.m.

Lt. Eric Woods from the Westport Police stated that a search warrant for a residence in Berlin, located in Hartford County, was obtained after gathering information from the Detective Bureau.

Members of the Berlin Police Department, along with the Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force, of which Westport is a part, executed the warrant on Monday, Sept. 18.

According to Woods, as a result of the search, they were able to recover four stolen motor vehicles. Among the vehicles recovered, one was the Aston Martin that was taken during the Westport carjacking.

During the search, authorities were able to locate a 2021 BMW 530i that had been stolen from Westport on the 16th of September and was used in the carjacking. Additionally, a BMW that was stolen from Ridgefield and a Porsche that was stolen from Rhode Island were also found and recovered, according to Woods.

The Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force arrested Derrick McGill, a 39-year-old resident of the house where the stolen cars were discovered. However, he does not face any charges in Westport at the moment.

The accused is currently detained on a bond of $250,000 and faces charges for the following offenses:

A residence in Waterbury, located in New Haven County, was subjected to a second search warrant on Tuesday, Sept. 19, by Westport Police Detectives, the Connecticut State Police Violent Crime Task Force, and members of the Waterbury Police Department.

Westport police have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile resident of the house where a handgun with an extended magazine was seized. The arrest was made after evidence connecting him to the carjacking was discovered.

Furthermore, he was apprehended for his purported participation in the embezzlement of the BMW on September 16th and its use in the act of carjacking.

The initial youth offender faced charges for stealing a motor vehicle and unlawfully obtaining a payment card.

According to Woods, the Westport Detectives are planning to obtain a detention order for the juvenile. If approved, the minor will be taken to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center on Tuesday.

Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas stated that the Detective Bureau, in conjunction with the Bridgeport Auto-theft Task Force, made significant strides in the investigation through the use of technology, inter-departmental collaboration, and traditional policing techniques. Thanks to their efforts, one of the suspects was apprehended within 36 hours of the incident.

According to Jennifer Tooker, the First Selectwoman, the Westport Police Department demonstrated their professionalism, expertise, and experience as they worked diligently and rapidly to solve the case.

The Westport Police Detectives are working closely with other agencies to gather more information and leads to determine the identities of the other suspects involved in this incident. Their collaborative efforts are ongoing, and they remain committed to bringing all those responsible to justice.
