A teen suspect has been detained for making repeated school threats

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), a teenage boy has been taken into custody in relation to the numerous threats made against Liberty High School in the past few months.

According to CSPD, Liberty High School located in Academy School District 20 (ASD20), had been subjected to a series of social media attacks for several months. These attacks were aimed not only at the school but also at individual students, thereby causing harm to their reputation and overall well-being. The attacks were both direct and indirect in nature, leading to a negative impact on the school’s environment and student morale.

According to CSPD, the school faced several threats that caused an unsettling atmosphere, leading to multiple instances of secure status. The mental and emotional health of both the students and staff were adversely affected by these incidents.

Upon receipt of the threats, the CSPD School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit promptly launched an investigation to identify the source of the threats. After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the threats were being sent by a single individual.

The SRO Unit, in collaboration with ASD20, CSPD Metro Intelligence, and the FBI, conducted a search warrant at a residence in northeast Colorado Springs on Friday, Sept. 15. The search was executed as part of an ongoing investigation, and officers were able to find evidence that led to the arrest of a teenage boy for his online activity.

Due to his age, the identity of the teenager who was arrested for Felony Incitement of Death or Destruction and Misdemeanor Interference with Staff, Faculty, or Students of an Educational Institution is being withheld from public disclosure.
