‘We are at Risk’: Ward 5 residents in Washington, D.C., are calling for increased police Action Amid Crime Surge

Residents of Ward 5 in Washington D.C. are urging the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to take stronger measures in response to the escalating crime rates in their community.

Larry Lewis, a resident of the area, expressed his concerns about the surge in violence that has put women and children at risk. He believes that the community has never experienced such alarming crime rates before. According to Lewis, this is due to the leadership of the newly assigned Ward 5 Commander and the perceived lack of action from law enforcement. His worries about the safety of the vulnerable members of the community highlight the urgent need for measures to be taken to address the situation.

A local resident, who preferred to stay anonymous, shared similar concerns to those expressed by Lewis. The resident, who had recently fallen victim to an arson attack, believed that MPD was not incompetent, but could offer better assistance to Ward 5. The resident observed that resources appear to be disproportionately distributed to the Northwest and Southwest areas. Lewis and the anonymous resident both agreed that if police efforts were directed toward the prioritized regions, this could help reduce the occurrence of such incidents in their local area.
