Nick Saban makes a confession after Alabama loss

During their loss to Texas on Saturday night, it was clear that Alabama was outmatched nearly from the beginning. Even Nick Saban, the team’s head coach, admits that he contemplated making a significant change during the game.

After the Crimson Tide’s 34-24 defeat, Saban was questioned about the possibility of using multiple quarterbacks since his offense was having a tough time. He conceded that he had considered making a change, but ultimately decided against it after Jalen Milroe tossed a touchdown pass in the latter part of the third quarter.

According to Saban, he observed how the drive to score gave his player a significant boost of confidence. “I did, but when he put the drive together to go down the field and score … I thought that gave him a lot of confidence,” Saban said.

It wasn’t until late in the game that Alabama finally reached the end zone, but their defense kept them in the game for the entire first half and beyond. With just 14 seconds left in the third quarter, Milroe connected with Jermaine Burton on a 49-yard touchdown pass to give the Tide a 16-13 lead. This impressive play may have been what saved Milroe from being benched.

Following Texas’ touchdown to take a 20-16 lead, Saban made the decision to stick with Milroe, despite the redshirt sophomore throwing an interception on Alabama’s subsequent drive. Unfortunately, that interception proved to be the deciding factor in the game.

During this offseason, Milroe emerged as the top quarterback choice over Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner. Although Alabama’s performance in the season opener was impressive, scoring a total of 56 points, it’s important to note that they were up against Middle Tennessee.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Saban decides to make a change at quarterback if Milroe struggles against South Florida next week.
