According to AL.com, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has recently sent a letter to the state’s public library agency, inquiring about certain books and whether they require “reform.” Governor Ivey, a member of the Republican Party, joins a growing list of public officials who seek to remove books with questionable content from school and public libraries or limit access based on age restrictions. Interestingly, Deborah Caldwell-Stone, the Director of the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, notes that most challenges to books do not come from parents but rather from advocacy groups with moral or political objections.
