Officials have reported that over the weekend, a suspected carjacking suspect was shot by US Marshals outside the Northwest DC home of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The Internal Affairs Bureau of the Metropolitan Police Department initiated an inquiry after an incident of shooting was reported on Friday, July 5, around 1:15 a.m., which involved an 18-year-old named Kentrell Flowers.
Police reports state that separate vehicles belonging to Deputy US Marshals were parked in the 2100 block of 11th Street NW.
According to reports, Flowers attempted to carjack one of the vehicles while armed with a handgun. As a result, the Marshal drew his weapon and fired multiple shots at Flowers.
The second Marshal took action and discharged their weapon.
After the incident, Flowers received medical attention for his non-life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital. Fortunately, neither of the Marshals sustained any injuries.
Multiple reports indicate that the incident occurred near Sotomayor’s DC condo. However, it remains unclear whether the judge was present at home during the incident.
The authorities pressed charges against Flowers for committing armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possessing a large-capacity ammunition feeding device.
