Thousands of children in Alabama are currently in the foster care system and are in need of adoptive families, according to WHNT.
According to Brittany Popham from Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections (APAC), providing good and supportive homes is crucial for all of them.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Children’s Aid Society of Alabama have joined forces to establish APAC, an initiative aimed at assisting families in preparing for and navigating the adoption process. Their primary objective is to provide support throughout the adoption journey.
Popham explained that their service includes comprehensive training and home study, aimed at helping individuals become forever families. “We take care of everything so that you can benefit from this free service,” she added.
According to her, every child, regardless of their age, should have a family that they can call their own for their entire life.
According to her, it is imperative for families to step up and become permanent families for children who do not have one. These children need someone to guide them through life, teach them essential skills such as driving, support them as they pursue higher education, and be there for all of life’s milestones. She emphasized the importance of having a family, something that many of us take for granted.
During Sunday’s Trash Pandas Game, APAC joined hands with the Heart Gallery, a non-profit organization that aims to connect foster care youth with families. The event was organized with the purpose of spreading awareness regarding the urgent need for adoptive families.
During the game, the Redd family was present, being one of the families whose growth was aided by the Heart Gallery and APAC.
Tyla Redd pointed out that having a positive parental figure is crucial for anyone’s success in life, especially for older children.
It has been almost a year since Levi became a part of their family, and according to her, he fits right in. She mentioned that everyone notices his resemblance to her husband, which further solidifies his place in their family. “He’s just like one of us,” she expressed with a smile.
Levi recently had his adoption finalized and to mark the occasion, he was given the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Trash Pandas game.
He threw the ball right across home plate, mentioning that he had participated in a weekend baseball tournament and practiced these throws to prepare.
