Sarah Boone, who is facing a murder charge, is now on the hunt for a ninth defense attorney as her current counsel has requested to be removed from her case.
In February 2020, Boone’s boyfriend, Jorge Torres, died after being placed in a suitcase and she has now been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his death. Despite the accusations, Boone has consistently claimed that Torres died during a game of hide-and-seek. The incident occurred in Winter Park, Florida and Boone, who is 42 years old, is currently facing the legal consequences of her actions.
According to her statement to investigators, the couple had been drinking and joking about the humorous possibility of him getting stuck inside the luggage. Eventually, they put him in the suitcase, but she passed out in bed soon after. When she woke up hours later, she discovered that he was still inside the luggage and immediately called 911.
According to reports, she continued by saying, “That’s your responsibility. It’s how I feel when you betray me.”
According to authorities, the man can be seen in one video trying to flee while in another video, Torres is heard yelling at Boone as the luggage is in a different location. After discovering inconsistencies in Boone’s statements, investigators took her into custody.
Patricia Cashman, Boone’s former defense attorney, has filed a motion to withdraw from the case. She is now the eighth attorney to do so.
According to Court TV, Cashman represented Boone during a Friday hearing, but in court filings, he cited “ethical considerations” and “irreconcilable differences” as reasons for their separation.
At the hearing, Boone presented a 58-page letter to the presiding judge, expressing his dissatisfaction with Cashman’s behavior and accusing him of having a “snotty attitude.”
On Friday, Boone expressed to the judge that he had never come across anyone like Ms. Cashman.
“I’ve realized that no matter how much I try to coexist with her, she won’t change her disposition and attitude towards me. It’s disheartening, but I’ve come up with a solution. I suggest having a pretend judge in our interactions, hoping that she’ll treat me with the professionalism and respect that I deserve, something she doesn’t do currently.”
All of the woman’s previous attorneys have received complaints from her.
After being called a “dud” and a “buffoon” by the suspected killer, Boone, Frank Bankowitz, who was the sixth attorney to represent her, withdrew from her case.
After the defendant filed complaints to the court regarding their communication styles, the seventh attorney decided to withdraw from the case.
During the hearing on Friday, the attorney challenged Boone’s remarks by stating that she had spent several hours with him and had even accepted his calls from jail. The attorney pointed out that it was Boone who had refused to cooperate with her, as she informed the judge.
In court, she shared that she had devoted more than 20 hours poring through her questions and lists. However, when she attempted to provide her with updates on recent depositions or review essential discovery information, the individual chose to leave the jail conference. This left her feeling frustrated and unsure of how to proceed.
