The FBI has recently released statistics indicating a drop in violent crime in the United States during the first quarter of this year. Attorney General Merrick Garland has referred to these statistics as “historic.”
According to the Quarterly Uniform Crime Report released by the FBI on Monday, there has been a significant drop of over 15% in violent crime across the nation from January to March in comparison to the same period last year.
According to the report, there was a significant decline of 26.4% in murder cases, and rape offenses saw a reduction of 25.7%.
According to the report, there was a significant decrease in robbery cases, with a drop of almost 18%. Similarly, aggravated assault saw a decrease of 12.5%, and there was a reported 15.1% decline in property crime.
In a statement on Monday, Garland emphasized that the data clearly indicates a continuation of the historic decline in violent crime witnessed last year.

President Joe Biden and his re-election campaign have received a significant victory as the report has positioned the former president, Donald Trump, as the first American president to be convicted of a felony, despite Republican attempts to portray him as tough on crime.
In an attempt to score political points off the announcement, Biden’s campaign spokesperson, Ammar Moussa, claimed that Trump is responsible for “enabling the largest spike in violent crime in more than a century”. Moussa further added that Biden has been working to clean up this mess.
According to Moussa, “It’s not feasible for Americans to endure another term of Trump’s attempt to defund law enforcement agencies while fulfilling his promise to grant clemency to violent rioters.” He was referring to Trump’s repeated declarations that he will pardon those who have been found guilty of charges related to the attempted insurrection on January 6, 2021.
“Come November, the American people will choose to uphold the principles of law and order, rather than electing a convicted criminal who prioritizes the interests of his fellow lawbreakers.”
In a statement released by the White House, Biden emphasized that the decrease in crime was not a coincidence. He credited his administration’s efforts in increasing police presence, holding violent offenders responsible, and removing illegal firearms from the streets as the driving force behind this positive trend.
He stated that the safety of Americans has significantly improved since he assumed office.
