Results of post-mortem examination made public for man from Mississippi who passed away in prison following an indictment for shoplifting.

According to recent reports, the inmate from the Natchez Police Department who was discovered deceased in the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility at the end of April passed away due to heart disease.

According to Brandy Spears, the spokesperson for the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, the autopsy results that were received on Tuesday revealed that Blarrington Ashley’s cause of death was due to hypertensive and atherosclerotic heart disease, and the manner of death was accidental.

Both the City of Natchez and Adams County rely on the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office to house their inmates. This arrangement came about after Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten shut down the jail to most of its inmates in August 2023, citing safety concerns for both the inmates and jail staff.

Two inmates from Natchez have passed away during their custody period at the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility. In October 2023, an inmate from the Natchez Police Department was fatally assaulted by another inmate from the same city while in the facility.
