According to weather officials, there were reports of two possible tornadoes in Montgomery County, Maryland on Wednesday night.
Tornado warnings were issued for several counties in Maryland during the evening, with reports of storm damage already emerging from the same county.
On Wednesday evening, a confirmed tornado was located near Poolesville, Maryland, which is about 20 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. Consequently, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central Montgomery County.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that the situation is highly perilous and has advised individuals to seek shelter immediately.
According to the chief spokesperson of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, there is evidence of tornado damage in the Montgomery County area. At least three structures have collapsed, and officials are currently working on rescuing those who may be trapped.
The D.C.-Baltimore area is expected to receive heavy rain, prompting a flood watch through 10 p.m. ET. There is a possibility of up to 4 inches of rain in some areas, which may lead to flooding.
According to the latest forecast, a bout of heavy rain is expected to sweep through Philadelphia and New York City during the night. By 7 a.m. on Thursday, there is a possibility of lingering rain in NYC, while the southern region of New England will experience heavy rainfall.
