On Tuesday, June 4, County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced in a news release that Troy Jones, a 58-year-old resident of Jackson Township, has been sentenced to a three-year probation term, with a condition of spending 364 days in the Ocean County Jail. This verdict was reached by a jury on Wednesday, Mar. 20, following a lengthy two-week trial.
On Thursday, December 23, 2021, the Jackson Township police received a report of theft from an apartment in The Gardens at Jackson Twenty-One complex located on Chatham Court West. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that the residents of the apartment had returned home from work at approximately 6 p.m. only to find that $4,500 in cash and an Apple Watch had been stolen.
On Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Jones. According to investigators, he gained access to the apartment using a master key and took the smartwatch and money.
The following day, Jones surrendered himself to the Jackson Township police. He was then transported to the county jail and later released on bail prior to his trial.
According to records from the jail, Jones was scheduled to be released on March 22, 2025, which falls on a Saturday.
