Progress made on redevelopment of Indian Creek MARTA station into mixed-use town center

The Indian Creek MARTA Station is set to undergo a transformation into a vibrant town center as plans move forward. The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners has given the green light to a rezoning effort for the area. This exciting development paves the way for a revitalized space that will serve as a hub for the community.

The board has approved the rezoning of a 64-acre area, which is set to be transformed into a high-density, mixed-use zone by the county and MARTA.

DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson expressed her belief that the project would greatly improve community connectivity and provide better access to essential services. She emphasized that the TOD at Indian Creek is an important milestone in their ongoing efforts to foster a more vibrant and inclusive community.

The rail station can now undergo redevelopment as it transforms into Indian Creek Village. This project aims to enhance housing density and establish walkable areas, parks, and greenspaces in the DeKalb County community.

As reported by Channel 2 Action News, the MARTA station’s surrounding unincorporated land is set to undergo redevelopment. This redevelopment comes alongside planned improvements and enhancements for the existing station, which is located on the MARTA East/West Line.

“We appreciate the support from the DeKalb County Commission and the importance of this rezoning designation,” expressed Collie Greenwood, MARTA’s General Manager and CEO. “This is a critical milestone in the transformation of Indian Creek Station into a thriving community hub, and we are excited to collaborate with our partners to turn this vision into reality.”

The previous project details have also revealed MARTA’s plans to renovate the Indian Creek rail station. This includes the addition of a new pedestrian bridge that will connect the station to Durham Park Road. Furthermore, there will be new lighting and light poles, as well as illuminated signage. The station will also receive new wall paneling, metal doors, and door frames. Additionally, there will be improvements in landscaping, with new trash receptacles and benches. The station will undergo a thorough pressure cleaning, and a new copper gutter system will be installed.
