Sheriff in North Georgia apprehended for charges of public indecency and sexual battery

A North Georgia sheriff has been taken into custody and accused of committing sexual battery and public indecency.

The investigation into Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols was initiated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation last week. On Friday, Sheriff Nichols voluntarily surrendered himself.

According to the jail records in Rabun County, Nichols is facing charges including public indecency, sexual battery, and violation of oath by a public officer.

The victim information has not been released by the GBI. The investigation of this case is still ongoing.

Nichols is currently in custody at the Rabun County Detention Center.

The GBI will hand over the case file to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney once the investigation is complete.
