Ukraine is currently engaged in a fierce battle against a force of 30,000 Russian soldiers near Kharkiv. The intensity of the fighting has prompted the evacuation of thousands of civilians from the region.
According to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine’s statement to ABC News on Monday, Russia has deployed 30,000 out of its 50,000 soldiers stationed at the border for an offensive operation in the northeast.
In his address on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned that he has dispatched additional troops to the region in response to ongoing Russian attacks. He emphasized that these troops have been equipped with the necessary firepower and forces, and their performance has shown visible improvement.
According to Zelenskyy, “We are actively engaging and neutralizing the enemy’s infantry and armored vehicles. Concurrently, we are observing their tactics and strategies, which indicate their intention to deplete our forces.”
According to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the ongoing conflict has forced around 5,900 civilians to evacuate their homes in the region and seek refuge in the city of Kharkiv. As of Monday, it was reported that approximately 200 individuals are still remaining in Vovchansk.
In his speech, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the local authorities for their relentless support in carrying out the evacuations amidst continuous bombardment from Russia.
In a recent update, the Russian military has stated that it has successfully enhanced the tactical situation and conducted targeted strikes on Ukrainian troops and military equipment in the Kharkiv region, specifically in the vicinity of Vovchansk.
