Chanel Clinton Receives Sentence for Shooting Incident at DC 7-Eleven

Chanel Clinton has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for the shooting incident that took place outside a convenience store on Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE over three months ago. In addition to the prison term, Clinton has also been given an additional 24 months of suspended jail time.

On Thursday, Jan. 18, court documents reveal that Clinton, who was working as a Special Police Officer at the time, engaged in an argument with her former friend. The dispute arose when the victim started recording Clinton in a taunting manner.

The argument escalated and moved outside, catching the attention of an off-duty Metropolitan Police Department sergeant. The sergeant, who was in full uniform, witnessed Clinton grabbing her victim by the face, initiating a physical altercation between the two women.

After being instructed by the sergeant to surrender her weapon, Clinton defied the command and proceeded to discharge it. Consequently, the sergeant promptly apprehended Clinton, and she was subsequently arrested. Following the incident, the victim received medical attention for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. The authorities were able to recover a 9 mm Glock 17 pistol from the location where the events transpired.

Clinton admitted his guilt in February, confessing to a single count of assault with a dangerous weapon. Alongside his prison sentence, the judge handed down a ruling for Clinton to complete five years of probation.
