Hiker Carolina Meister discovered deceased at the bottom of a waterfall in California

An experienced hiker’s body was discovered at the base of a waterfall, bringing an end to the search that had been ongoing for days in Northern California.

During a press conference on Friday, Sheriff Tina M. Nieto of Monterey County confirmed that search and rescue teams discovered the body of Caroline Meister, a 30-year-old individual. The teams found her at approximately 10:45 a.m. PST at the bottom of a waterfall, located near a trail in the Ventana Wilderness.

According to the police, foul play is not suspected.

The cause of death has yet to be confirmed by the coroner, but the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office stated that her injuries were in line with those sustained from a fall from a height.

Meister had disappeared on Monday, March 18, following her decision to go on a hike from the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.

Meister, an experienced hiker, had ventured out with only snacks for the day, lacking the appropriate attire and gear for an overnight stay when she vanished.

According to reports, Meister informed the residents at the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center about her hiking plans. She mentioned that she intended to hike a loop that would eventually bring her back to the center. Additionally, she mentioned her interest in exploring the “Windcave Trail.”
