Authorities searching for suspect who killed state police officer

Tragedy struck on Friday as a New Mexico State Police officer lost their life while bravely serving on a highway. It is with deep sorrow that we report the unfortunate incident.

New Mexico State Police have reported that the suspect involved in the shooting is still on the loose.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed her sorrow over the tragic incident, emphasizing the risks that law enforcement officers face every time they wear their uniforms and go on duty. In a heartfelt statement, she acknowledged the dedication of Officer Hare in protecting the community and assured that his sacrifice will always be remembered. The governor extended her deepest condolences to Officer Hare’s family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging period.

The suspect in the shooting has been captured in photos released by the state police. According to authorities, the suspect was last seen on foot on the I-40 Frontage Road at milepost 304, located between Montoya and Newkirk.

New Mexico State Police issued a warning on social media, urging the public to avoid approaching the suspect as they are armed and dangerous. Instead, they advised calling 911 immediately for assistance.

Authorities in Hartley County, Texas, had previously received reports indicating that the suspect might have escaped on a train heading east into the Texas Panhandle region. However, after conducting a comprehensive search, Hartley County Sheriff Chanze Fowler confirmed that there were no passengers on the train and no evidence linking it to the suspect. Furthermore, there is no evidence to suggest that the suspect is currently in the area.

According to state police, there is limited information available about the incident at this time.

Authorities said the suspect, who remains unidentified, was last spotted donning blue jeans, a tan Carhartt jacket, and either a red or brown hoodie.
