Viewership For Joe Biden’s State Of The Union Address Increases By 18% Compared To Last Year

Final Nielsen ratings show that Joe Biden’s State of the Union address received 32.3 million viewers, up 18% from last year.

President Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress garnered his second-largest audience, with his first speech in 2021 attracting 38.2 million viewers.

According to the latest statistics, Fox News emerged as the leading network with a staggering 5.84 million viewers. Following closely behind, MSNBC garnered an impressive 4.43 million viewers, while CNN secured 2.63 million. Fox Business maintained a solid average of 244,000 viewers.

ABC News was the leading broadcast network, attracting a staggering 5.24 million viewers. NBC News was close behind with 4.47 million viewers, while CBS News garnered an audience of 4.09 million. Fox Broadcasting trailed behind with 1.78 million viewers.

In the 25-54 demographic, NBC News was the leading network with 1.18 million viewers. In the same demographic, ABC News had an average of 1.15 million viewers, while CBS News recorded 868,000 viewers. Fox Broadcasting, on the other hand, had an average of 540,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.

Fox News took the lead among cable networks in the demo, attracting an impressive 1.41 million viewers. CNN followed closely with 710,000 viewers, while MSNBC garnered 695,000 viewers. Fox Business also had a decent showing with an average of 47,000 viewers.

President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address attracted approximately 27.7 million viewers across nine networks, indicating a growth in overall viewership compared to last year, according to preliminary Nielsen data.

In 2023, approximately 27.3 million viewers tuned in to watch the event. This viewership was spread across 16 different networks. Final figures from Nielsen, including data from additional networks, will be released later today.

According to the viewership numbers, Fox News was the highest-rated network, attracting 5.64 million viewers. ABC News followed closely behind with 5.02 million viewers, while NBC News had 4.33 million viewers. MSNBC and CBS News both garnered significant viewership with 4.2 million and 3.94 million respectively. CNN trailed behind with 2.51 million viewers, while Fox, Fox Business, and CNBC had 1.71 million, 240,000, and 112,000 viewers respectively.

In the 25-54 demographic, NBC News took the lead with 1.11 million viewers, closely followed by ABC News with 1.07 million. Fox News secured the third spot with 1.03 million viewers, while CBS News garnered 824,000 viewers. CNN and MSNBC trailed behind with 646,000 and 611,000 viewers respectively. Fox Business attracted 516,738 viewers, while CNBC and Fox Business had 40,000 and 35,000 viewers respectively.

The measurements were taken from 9:15 to 10:45 p.m. ET. These figures were provided by Nielsen through Fox News.

In 2021, Biden’s inaugural speech as president to a joint session of Congress was watched by 26.9 million viewers. The State of the Union address in 2022, on the other hand, attracted a larger audience of 38.2 million.
