NJ man accused of shooting daughter dies in jail awaiting trial

Prosecutors revealed on Tuesday that a New Jersey father, who was charged with shooting his daughter dead last year, passed away in Hudson County jail last week. A representative from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office stated that on February 15, officers of the Hudson County Correctional Facility received a report of an inmate who had passed out inside his cell.

Errol Brown, 52, was the prisoner in question; he was awaiting trial for shooting his daughter fatally. As police arrived, emergency medical staff attempted to assist Brown. After being transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, he was declared deceased at approximately 3:45 p.m.

It was unclear at first what caused the death. Because this was an in-custody fatality, the prosecution claimed that the NJOAG assigned the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office to conduct an independent investigation into the case.

The Office of the Regional Medical Examiner will ascertain the cause of death. The spokeswoman stated, “At this time, foul play is not suspected.”

Prosecutors said that Brown was detained and charged in relation to his daughter’s gunshot death on June 13, 2023, inside an apartment at 331 Ave. E in Bayonne. Upon responding to a 911 call about a shooting, the Bayonne Police Department found 28-year-old Keyanna Brown injured in the upper chest.

Errol faced accusations of both murder and illegal firearm possession.
