Washington- A woman was taken into custody in Northwest D.C. after allegedly fatally stabbing her 70-year-old father, according to police.
On Saturday, February 10, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were apprehended at the intersection of North Capitol and P Streets, Northwest, by a woman who informed them that she intended to turn herself in after stabbing a man in the 1600 block of 6th Street, Northwest.
She directed officers to the residence, and when they arrived, they entered in pursuit of the victim, who was conscious at the time and shouted “I’m upstairs!”
According to an affidavit, police observed blood on the floor and walls upon entering the residence. The victim, James Gaylor, 70, was discovered by officers lying on the floor at the entrance to a bedroom located upstairs.
Gaylor was found with a cloth tied around his cranium and his clothing drenched in blood, according to the police. DC Fire and EMS treated the victim for over a dozen stab wounds to the head, neck, abdomen, wrists, forearms, and back. His response when asked who attacked him was “my daughter.”
Gaylor was transported to the hospital due to injuries that were critical in nature. The following day, he passed away. Brittany Gaylor, 32, was apprehended by the police on the evening of the incident. Subsequent to the demise of her father, her allegation of assault with the intent to kill (knife) was amended to second-degree murder.
Police noted in the affidavit that the victim filed a report against his daughter on February 8, stating that he had awoken to her brandishing a knife in his bedroom and that she would “kill him before he kills her.” In addition, he claimed that she “uses illicit substances” and was “not rational” at the time he submitted the report.
The police continue their investigation.
