Southern Indiana suspect faces charges for string of catalytic converter thefts

Mocobizscene- A man from southern Indiana is facing formal theft charges, as he has been accused of stealing catalytic converters. The Columbus Police Department began its investigation in December 2023 after receiving reports from local businesses in the community.

Detectives started investigating Russell D. Neville, a 59-year-old resident of Columbus, as a potential suspect in a series of thefts across Bartholomew, Johnson, and Marion counties.

Neville got arrested on Thursday, Feb. 1, when he was found in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana during a routine traffic stop. Columbus police promptly apprehended him and took him to the Bartholomew County Jail. He was then held on drug charges while the investigation progressed.

The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged the following in this case:

• The defendant is facing nine counts of theft, which are classified as level 6 felonies.

• I am charged with possession of methamphetamine, which is classified as a Level 6 Felony.

• Possessing Marijuana (Class A Misdemeanor)

During the investigation, Columbus police recovered blades, according to reports. Columbus police received assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies in southern Indiana during their investigation.
