Mocobizscene-Montgomery County court officials said on Monday that a Maryland woman was sentenced to 25 years in jail for the 2017 murder of her 17-year-old brother, which she committed in collusion with her boyfriend and her twin sister.
On March 21, 2017, Christian Matthews was sleeping in the family’s Silver Spring home when he was strangled to death by Tysean Lipford, his sister’s boyfriend. According to court records, Leaundra Matthews, her twin sister Lemae Matthews, Lipford, and Daniel Howard were all involved in the plot to assassinate Christian.
After first classifying the incident as a “suspicious death,” the police were able to establish that it was a homicide. According to court documents, Christian’s sisters reported the event to authorities at around 2:30 a.m. on March 21, 2017, claiming to have heard a “large commotion coming from the basement.”
Officers searched the home and discovered Christian unconscious in his basement bedroom. After being brought to a hospital, he was declared deceased.Christian’s neck had “suspicious marks,” which prompted officers to launch a formal inquiry.
Court records state that Lipford later admitted to the crime. After being found guilty in January 2019, he is presently receiving a 30-year sentence. Leaundra received a sentence on Monday that included five years of probation and 25 years in jail.According to court records, Lemae entered a guilty plea to accessory after the fact to murder in October 2021. Court officials said she will be sentenced after Howard’s July 2024 trial.
