Mocobizscene- A devastating incident claimed the life of a woman from Miramar when her car collided with a Brightline train in Pompano Beach on Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as Melissa Ordonez, 42, as reported by Local 10.
The collision happened at the intersection of West Atlantic Boulevard and Dixie Highway around 9:35 p.m. when Ordonez’s Lexus SUV stopped on the railroad tracks. Despite the activated crossing signals, including safety lights, bells, and descending gates, it is still unclear why the vehicle didn’t move as the train approached. The train engineer tried to stop the train but couldn’t avoid the T-bone collision that tragically took Ordonez’s life.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel, in collaboration with Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, swiftly arrived at the scene. Tragically, Ordonez was declared deceased upon their arrival. The BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit has now taken charge of the investigation, meticulously examining every detail. In light of this devastating incident, authorities are emphasizing the inherent danger associated with railroad crossings. They are urging all individuals, whether motorists, cyclists, or pedestrians, to exercise increased vigilance and strictly adhere to safety protocols.
