LBFD rescues 19 people from damaged sailboat near Long Beach breakwater

Mocobizscene- Nineteen individuals on a sailboat needed to be saved on Sunday near the breakwater by a Good Samaritan and the Long Beach Fire Department, according to officials.

The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) received a distress call about the 40-foot sailboat at approximately 3 p.m. This call came in just as the winds and rain of the anticipated massive storm were beginning to impact the area. According to LBFD spokesman Brian Fisk, the boat’s mast was broken off by the wind, causing it to drift towards the rocks of the breakwater.

Two rescue boats from the LBFD immediately responded to the scene and discovered a group of 11 individuals who had managed to climb onto the rocks. Fortunately, another nearby vessel was able to rescue the remaining eight passengers. It was reported that one of the passengers sustained injuries, although they were not life-threatening, as confirmed by Fisk.

Despite the storm, rescuers successfully saved all 19 passengers, braving the rain and wind. Fisk stated that the inclement weather hindered the rescue effort. Nineteen individuals were saved from a sailboat that had sustained damage near the Long Beach breakwater, according to the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD). The incident was reported by the Long Beach Post.
