Mocobizscene- The Health Department of New York City is notifying residents of a Brooklyn public housing complex about Legionnaires’ disease.
Within the last twelve months, two occupants of the building located on Sutter Avenue in Brownsville have received a diagnosis of the disease. Legionnaire’s disease is transmitted through the inhalation of vapor from contaminated water.
Residents should avoid taking showers, according to health officials, because they can produce vapor. Tenants may continue to utilize and consume the water. Inspecting the water system for bacterial presence is planned. Each year, between 200 and 500 New Yorkers contract Legionnaires’ disease.
