Mocobizscene- On Sunday morning, the Kansas City, Missouri police were called to a residence in the 5600 block of Jackson Avenue following reports of a domestic violence assault.
Upon their arrival at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers engaged in conversation with a woman who informed them that the disturbance had occurred within a residence. Subsequently, she departed the premises, accompanied by one child. According to the woman, she informed the police about a man who had threatened her with a gun.
According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), after the woman was transported to a local hospital for medical care, the man locked himself inside the residence.
Police surrounded the residence around 10:30 a.m. in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. The man inside, who was believed to be armed, had been refusing to exit.
The situation reached a stalemate at that moment. After the man reentered the home, the children descended a ladder into a courtyard. By approximately 2:30 p.m., the police confirmed that several children and dogs had safely exited the residence and reunited with their families.
There was a belief that the man was the sole occupant remaining in the house. The negotiation efforts persisted until the man ignited a flame within the home, resulting in a fire, according to the police’s belief. The KCMO Fire Department was actively engaged in containing the fire, which was located behind an armored vehicle.
Around 6:30 p.m., the man left the building carrying a rifle. According to the Kansas City Police Department, he followed the officers’ instructions to put down his weapons and move away from the fire.
The authorities apprehended the man and escorted him for a medical evaluation to assess any potential injuries. The investigation into the incident is still in progress.
