Mocobizscene- A man who was wanted for an armed robbery on Federal Hill last year died in a shootout with U.S. Marshals in New Jersey on Wednesday, according to sources.
Shamar Leggette, a 41-year-old man, was fatally shot by officers outside a hotel in South Brunswick. Authorities have stated that Leggette opened fire on the officers as he was leaving the hotel. CBS News reported this incident.
In August, a man sitting in his parked car on Atwells Avenue was believed to have been robbed and shot by Leggette, according to Providence detectives.
Leggette, who has been described as a “career criminal,” was wanted for multiple crimes. Two years ago, he allegedly robbed a Brooklyn bishop at gunpoint during a livestreamed sermon. Additionally, he was involved in a fatal shooting outside of a gentlemen’s club in Pennsylvania last December. Notably, Leggette was previously convicted for robbing an NBA player outside of a Manhattan restaurant in 2002.
The shootout is currently under investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, and fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.
