Severe storm affects 190,000 Dominion Energy customers

Mocobizscene- Thousands of people in the Hampton Roads region experienced power outages during Tuesday’s severe weather, just as predicted. Dominion Energy reported the majority of local outages on the Southside, with a focus on Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.

As crews tirelessly work to restore power to customers in the region, the number of outages continues to fluctuate. Dominion Energy is committed to working around the clock, ensuring that customers’ power is restored as quickly and safely as possible.

On Wednesday morning, Dominion Energy confirmed that a total of 190,000 customers were affected by the storm that occurred on Tuesday night. By 7 a.m. the following day, crews had successfully restored power to almost 83% of these customers. Throughout the night, dedicated crews tirelessly worked to address the outages, which were primarily concentrated in eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, as highlighted by Cherise Newsome from Dominion Energy.

Dominion Energy expects to restore power to the majority of customers by 11 a.m. on Wednesday. However, in areas where the damage is more severe, restoration efforts may continue until Thursday.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience as our crews work in difficult conditions. In some areas, large fallen trees and tough road conditions make it challenging to quickly access power lines that need repair, particularly in remote areas.”

In a recent press release, Dominion Energy stated that they anticipate the storm on Tuesday to result in widespread power outages and a potential restoration effort lasting multiple days.

The storm brought about intense rainfall and powerful winds, reaching gusts of up to 75 mph. Consequently, there were considerable power outages as a result of fallen trees, branches, and damaged power lines.
