News reports concerning the murder of 16-year-old Tioni Theus surfaced more than a week after her body was discovered on January 8, 2022. Sadly, Tioni’s body was discovered near South Figueroa Street at the Manchester Avenue on-ramp to the 110 Freeway South. When drivers saw the body, it was around 8:00 a.m. and they called the police.
Tioni Theus was shot in the neck, according to investigators, and her father, Darien Jackson, told media outlets he didn’t know why somebody would want to kill his little girl. Per reports, Tioni was residing with him while her mother healed from a hit-and-run incident. According to rumors, Tioni attended Centennial High School while they were residents of Compton.
“It simply doesn’t make sense,” he remarked. “It simply hurt,” It’s as though I’ve died. It was just painful. Everything is lost for you.” “A piece of me is gone,” he continued. I hope the perpetrator is apprehended.”
It is reported that police are collaborating with local authorities to identify the perpetrator of this horrifying act.
Tioni’s Family Requests Legal Action
We are discussing a 16-year-old. We are not discussing an adult here. We’re talking about a sixteen-year-old youngster!” exclaimed Tioni’s cousin Lakeshia Barret. “A little youngster, discarded like rubbish on the side of the freeway! She had significance for her family.”
Jasmin Johnson, the victim’s aunt, continued, “This family has been negatively impacted by her loss. I’m not sure if we can handle it any longer. So, would you kindly turn yourself in if you did this to my niece?”
According to CHP Assistant Chief Jesus Holguin, “there has to be someone out there who witnessed at least a portion, if not the entirety, of this case.” “We know that people out there witnessed something that we can follow up on and hopefully get to the bottom of this crime as soon as possible.”
Police Think She May Have Been a Trafficking Victim
District Attorney George Gascón of Los Angeles County stated that Tioni may have been a victim of human trafficking.
The Los Angeles Times was informed by Tioni’s cousin Nafeesah Kincy that “we’re definitely not pretending that Tioni was an angel.” “She experienced trauma. To make her more like me. I don’t want her to be perceived as a runaway, prostitute, or someone who, well, folks kind of live that kind of life.”There are a lot of young ladies in this area who are being sexually and physically exploited. It’s my cousin, then, today. However, tomorrow it might be your friend, your cousin, or your daughter.”
