In relation to a violent handbag theft that occurred in a Costco parking lot in late November and left a woman critically injured, two brothers from California were taken into custody last week.
On suspicion of robbery, detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau detained Andrew Morrison, 34, and David Morrison, 38, on Thursday, according to KTLA.
On November 26 in the City of Industry, the victim—who has not been identified—was packing her car with stuff when an SUV drew up. After getting out of the car, a man is said to have attempted to take her pocketbook.
As the car drove away, the woman would not let go of the pocketbook. It took her fifty feet to lose her hold on the bag. She sustained a laceration to her scalp, abrasions, and a facial fracture. According to officials, she had severe head trauma that left her with potentially fatal wounds, the station stated.
Following a “thorough investigation” by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, officers in Diamond Bar arrested the brothers on suspicion of robbery while carrying out a search warrant. During the search, investigators claimed found “crucial evidence,” which included the victim’s personal belongings.
Bail for the brothers is set at $500,000.
