Mocobizscene- According to reports, there was a clash between authorities from 11 law enforcement agencies and a group of approximately 1,000 juveniles at a shopping center in Southern California. As a result of the altercation, five of the youths were arrested.
On Saturday, chaos erupted at the Del Amo Fashion Center as Torrance police officers spotted a group of juveniles “engaging in disruptive behavior,” according to a news release on the police department’s Facebook page.
The police stated that while officers were dealing with the crowd, additional groups gathered in different areas and started behaving more disruptively.
According to KTLA, the disturbance at the shopping center escalated after a Torrance cop was injured in the melee. As a result, officers from 11 nearby law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, quickly arrived at the scene to provide additional support.
The riot gear-clad officers formed a “skirmish line” and instructed the group of juveniles to disperse.
According to the Torrance police, individuals were instructed to leave the mall premises and stay away from nearby establishments.
Officers responded to 34 businesses to address “disruptive groups of juveniles” while the youths were instructed to leave.
Law enforcement officials took five juveniles into custody, consisting of three females and two males.
One of the youths sustained injuries along with the police officer. Both individuals received medical treatment at the scene and were subsequently discharged.
Torrance Mayor George Chen strongly condemned the violence.
In a statement, he expressed his deep concern over the troubling situation where young people are causing harm and chaos in our community.
According to the speaker, acts of organized looting and property destruction, whether committed by youth or adults, are not acceptable. They emphasize the need for improvement and express gratitude for the coordinated efforts and response of the police department and their regional partners, which are appreciated by the community.
In August, there was a major altercation at the Del Amo Fashion Center, where a brave individual intervened to protect a young boy who was being singled out.
Hardy recalled the moment vividly, stating, “As I sprinted towards the scene, I was met with a throng of people. I couldn’t tell how many children were there, but I immediately leapt into action, pushing them away from harm’s way.”
