Mocobizscene-The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a humiliating defeat in a crucial Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints. The final score of 23-13 was a closer representation of the game’s intensity than the actual outcome.
The Saints defense dominated the Buc’s offence, while Derek Carr delivered an exceptional performance in the black and gold. The Saints outperformed the Bucs in every aspect, showcasing their superiority on Sunday and keeping their season alive.
After the loss, Bucs offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs had some strong accusations regarding the Saints.
I’m tired of the late hits from New Orleans lately, “Wirfs said.” The Buccaneers OT specifically called out Nathan Shepherd for a hit on Bucs QB Baker Mayfield earlier this season. He also mentioned Tyrann Mathieu for a tackle in the Week 18 matchup.
The impact of Shepherd’s hit appeared more severe than intended, as Mayfield was forcefully pushed backward just moments after releasing the ball for a touchdown. Mathieu’s tackle, on the other hand, was executed properly and in accordance with the rules.
Wirf’s annoyance and frustration were evident in his body language and tone, which is understandable considering his responsibility to protect his quarterback.

Neither hit by New Orleans was malicious or dirty. NFL football is a fast-paced game, played by large human beings who move faster than their size would suggest.
Standing at an impressive 6’5″ and weighing 320 pounds, Wirfs possesses a unique understanding of the challenges involved in abruptly halting one’s momentum. This becomes particularly apparent when attempting to sack a quarterback and execute a crucial defensive play.
Keep in mind that this game is a rivalry
The hits between the teams can be quite brutal at times, and they have certainly taken some hard shots from each other over the years. One memorable incident for Saints fans is Devin White’s tackle on Jameis Winston a few seasons ago, which unfortunately resulted in the quarterback’s season coming to an early end.
Regardless, Wirfs disregarded the common sense of the situation and allowed the Saints to provoke him. It is possible that this was simply an emotional response following a intense, divisional game towards the end of the season.
