Roundabouts driving controversy in Montgomery neighborhood

In Montgomery’s Arrowhead subdivision, three new roundabouts were recently installed to address the issue of speeding in the area.

However, the new traffic circles have generated mixed opinions among residents of Arrowhead and the neighbouring Lake Forest subdivision.

Lake Forest resident Jarrod Massey, who drives through Arrowhead to get to his home, believes that the roundabouts were not carefully planned. He thinks that they are too small, causing difficulties for some drivers to maneuver. Massey observed that some drivers even bypass the roundabouts, which defeats the purpose of reducing speeding.

On the other hand, Alex Hood, who lives near the Coosada Drive to Seminole Drive roundabout, thinks that the traffic circles are the perfect solution to the speeding problem. Hood said that the residents called Seminole Drive the “Seminole Speedway” due to the high speed of drivers in the area.

As a first responder, Hood prefers the roundabouts to speed bumps because emergency vehicles can get through them without any incident. Hood suggested that educating drivers about the concrete apron around the roundabout would be helpful. This would allow drivers to know that they are allowed to drive on it.

Massey believes that there are better solutions than roundabouts, such as a four-way stop or a caution light. WSFA 12 News reached out to Montgomery City Councilman Ed Grimes to learn more about the city’s involvement in the installation of the roundabouts, but he has not responded yet.
