Mocobizscene-An unauthorized cannabis store in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, has been shut down by Attorney General Letitia James, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). Despite orders to close, The Big Chief Smoke Shop continued to sell unlicensed cannabis products. This year, nine stores have closed, including this one.
The OCM and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF) conducted an investigation into The Big Chief Smoke Shop. Following two inspections, more than 600 pounds of untested cannabis and cannabis-related goods were seized from the store. The store broke the cannabis rules in New York, which require all cannabis retailers to be licensed, regulated, and subject to testing.
Attorney General James and the OCM are requesting fines from the store’s owner and the building owner in addition to closing the business. There may be severe consequences. The establishment’s proprietor faces consequences for permitting an unlicensed enterprise to function on their premises.
Governor Hochul reaffirmed her commitment to upholding cannabis regulations and guaranteeing the sector’s security. Attorney General James emphasized that cannabis businesses must adhere to rules and regulations and that there are health hazards associated with operating unregistered storefronts.
Under the direction of Executive Director Chris Alexander, the OCM is attempting to shut down illicit cannabis companies throughout the state. Huge quantities of illegal cannabis have been seized during many regulatory inspections by the OCM and DTF. Alexander declared that by making sure that every cannabis product offered in New York is secure, examined, and subject to the appropriate regulations, they will keep up their defense of the general public’s health among the state’s cannabis users.
