Mocobizscene- A 17-year-old boy has been taken into custody for reportedly shooting another teenage boy during a physical altercation in Long Beach. The incident occurred on the campus of Wilson High School, where a 15-year-old boy, who was allegedly involved in the fight, was subsequently arrested the next day for bringing a firearm to school. The police have disclosed these details on Friday.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the shooting was reported at approximately 4:15 p.m. on December 7th. It occurred off campus in the 1000 block of Junipero Avenue.
According to a statement from the LBPD, an unidentified male suspect fired shots during the altercation, hitting a 17-year-old victim. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury to the lower body and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
The LBPD statement mentioned that the next day, officials responded to a “person with a gun call” at Wilson High School, located in the 4400 block of East 10th Street.
A 15-year-old boy was detained by school safety officers of the Long Beach Unified School District, and subsequently arrested by LBPD officers. At the scene, a firearm was recovered by the LBPD. The identity of the boy has not been disclosed.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) stated that they worked together with the LBUSD school safety personnel to gather more information regarding the incident. The collaboration between the gangs detectives and school safety personnel led to the identification of the 15-year-old suspect who was involved in the December 7 incident. It was determined that the suspect was unharmed during the incident. Furthermore, the detectives also identified a 17-year-old male suspect who was responsible for the shooting.
A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly attempting to commit murder, according to the police. Although his identity remains undisclosed, he has been booked under suspicion of the crime.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the initial altercation and shooting, as well as why the teenager brought a firearm to school.
