Beaumont: Details of a chase that resulted in the arrest of a suspect inside a 99-year-old man’s home are being made public by Beaumont police. Anthony “Pooka” Williams, Jr., a 24 year old Luling, Louisiana resident, has been named as the suspect.
BPD officers noticed an automobile driving east on I-10 at 11:46 a.m. that was missing its license plates. Williams tried to stop the car, ran away, and led police on a chase that came to an end near I-10 and 7th street.
Williams struck a curb after losing control of the car. He then made his escape on foot, running into a neighborhood and into a house’s open garage. When Sam Davis encountered Williams in his garage closet, he was on his way into his house after returning from a therapy visit.
“He shoved me back, opened the door and went into the house and I couldn’t follow him,” Davis recalls. Williams fled inside the visitor bedroom and took refuge in the wardrobe.
“What worried me so much was, he was in the house and my wife is 75, I mean 95 years old and she spends a lot of time in the back bedroom, and I was afraid that he would go in there and take her as a hostage,” says Williams.
Williams was arrested after Williams’ closet was broken into by police. Williams faces charges of illegally carrying a weapon, trespassing, evading in a motor vehicle, and evading on foot. In Williams’ car, they also found drugs and a pistol.
With the holidays approaching, I have no doubt that they are working especially hard to ensure the safety of all these soft drink items.
