A mother in Edna, Texas, is filled with devastation and grief after discovering her only child, a 16-year-old cheerleader, brutally murdered in her apartment on Tuesday. The heartless act has left the community in shock and mourning.

Lizbeth Medina, a member of the Edna High School cheerleaders, tragically lost her life before she could take part in a Christmas parade. The authorities have not yet revealed the details surrounding her untimely death.

On Wednesday, the Edna Police Department reported that they had responded to a call at the Cottonwood Apartments the previous evening. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive juvenile at the scene.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers initially believed that the juvenile was deceased, as stated by the authorities. Emergency Medical Services promptly arrived to administer medical assistance in an effort to save the individual.

In an interview with local CBS affiliate KHOU, Lizbeth’s mother, Jacqueline Medina, emotionally shared that she discovered her only child brutally murdered, just one year after they had relocated to Edna.

Medina expressed her anguish as she shared, “Someone had the audacity to come in and forcefully separate my daughter from me, and it devastates me. Medina discovered her daughter’s tragic demise at home. She had grown concerned when Lizbeth did not join her cheer teammates for the Christmas parade. The local authorities have requested the assistance of the Texas Rangers in investigating the alleged capital murder case.

In Texas, capital murder charges can arise in various situations, usually when the offender purposely commits the murder while engaged in or attempting to carry out another grave offense. These offenses include kidnapping, burglary, robbery, aggravated sexual assault, arson, obstruction or retaliation, or making terroristic threats.
