According to officials, a tragic incident occurred in New York City where a fire erupted in an apartment, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to six others. The cause of the fire has been attributed to a malfunctioning electric bicycle battery.
The fire ignited on Sunday evening at approximately 7 p.m. in a 10th-floor apartment situated in a public housing complex in the Bronx, according to a spokesperson from the FDNY.
According to the spokesperson, one individual was transported to the hospital with critical injuries and unfortunately passed away. Additionally, two other individuals sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, while four others suffered minor injuries.
The fire department officials have determined that the cause of the fire was the lithium ion battery of an e-bike.
Just three weeks after a tragic fire caused by a lithium ion battery claimed the lives of three members of a family in Brooklyn, another deadly fire occurred.
In recent years, New York City has experienced numerous fires that have been connected to the batteries used in electric bikes and scooters. City officials have attributed many of these fires to off-market batteries and chargers. As a result, they have been advocating for stricter regulations from the federal government regarding the sale of e-bikes and batteries.
