Man Arrested for Queens Smoke Shop Robbery Due to Colorful Underwear

A tipper who identified a suspect’s unique undergarments assisted investigators in New York City in apprehension of one of the three individuals suspected in the armed robbery of a tobacco shop over a year ago.

Surveillance footage from the incident that occurred on September 14, 2022, shows three men donning Halloween masks as they depart a Mazda 3 and enter the Queens store.

Two of them were armed. Before departing the area, the three emptied the registers of $3,000 in cash, stole $1,000 worth of the store’s CBD and marijuana products, and fled in an idling Mazda.

At the time of the robbery, the phones of the four individuals present in the store were also pilfered by the three.

Security cameras captured one of the suspects, 30-year-old Fathy Hussein, with his trousers down, per the NYPD. The man’s distinctive, multicolored unmentionables, which also bear the letters “R” and “1990” in yellow, are captured in clear detail on the video. The camera footage captured the suspect’s revealing identifier both inside the store and as he was exiting.

Police were reportedly directed to Hussein’s social media accounts by the anonymous tipper; he was detained for robbery on Wednesday. According to the caller, the group also attempted to unload the stolen products using a third party.

Hussein was on probation at the time of the armed robbery, according to reliable sources.

The suspect was identified by the police using video and his Instagram account from the location where the three men attempted to sell the stolen goods. Hussein is in custody at the federal court in Brooklyn pending arraignment. On Saturday, his public defender’s office counsel could not be reached for comment. The two additional robbery suspects are still missing.
