Authorities in Brooklyn are currently searching for a driver who allegedly hit and killed a grandmother near her home. The incident occurred in New York, and the victim was tragically killed in the accident. The search for the driver is still ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. The incident occurred in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
According to advocates, New York City has witnessed three hit-and-run incidents in the last 24 hours.
According to Erika Zuber, she received a text from the deceased at 2 o’clock, and just four hours later, the news of her passing was confirmed. Zuber is still finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that her closest friend is no longer with her.
Zuber reminisced about his friendship with fondness. “We were the best of friends who frequently gathered at the beach,” he shared. “Our routine was to grab some coffee and cake, but unfortunately, that day marked the end of our time together.”
Ann-Marie Wiesner, a cherished grandmother and musician, was adored by her loved ones. Having migrated from Switzerland in the 1980s, she had a profound love for her family, her German shepherd, and playing the violin.
According to Zuber, the late woman had an amazing spirit and zest for life despite being a grandmother. “She really knew how to live life to the fullest,” he added. Zuber cautioned against speeding and emphasized that it is not worth it. He mentioned that incidents of speeding occur frequently in the area.
According to Bay Ridge residents, the absence of speed bumps, traffic lights, or stop signs for several blocks has resulted in frequent speeding by drivers in the neighborhood.
Hank D’Amato, a resident, expressed his concern about the need for physical measures to stop speeding vehicles. He suggested the installation of a speed bump, stating that he is open to having it placed from his driveway to the opposite side of the road. His main goal is to have something in place that can effectively slow down cars and prevent accidents.
According to CBS New York, the city has experienced its third fatal hit-and-run in just 24 hours.
Danny Harris of Transportation Alternatives emphasized the urgent need for safer crosswalks, more protected bike lanes, and bus lanes in New York City. He also stressed the importance of lowering the speed limit and implementing more automated enforcement to ensure better road safety.
As per Transportation Alternatives’ report, incidents of traffic violence on city streets have been increasing. The statistics for this year reveal that 83 pedestrians have lost their lives in traffic crashes while 570 have sustained severe injuries.
Wiesner’s loved ones are currently hoping that the driver responsible for her untimely death will take responsibility for their actions.
Zuber expressed his hope that the person responsible for the act would voluntarily turn themselves in. On Friday morning, a construction boom struck and killed a man on the Lower East Side.
According to officials, the young man, aged 19, was serving as a guide for the cherry picker as it reversed, but unfortunately, it struck him and led to his untimely death. According to reports, a cardiac condition was identified in another individual who was promptly treated and rushed to Beth Israel Hospital.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim.
