‘Preparation Overload’ blamed by Jim Clyburn for Biden’s Debate Performance

According to Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), President Joe Biden’s lackluster debate performance may have been due to over-preparation for the event.

During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union with Dana Bash, James Clyburn, the co-chair of Biden’s reelection campaign, attributed the success of Thursday’s debate to the preparation techniques employed by the former vice president. As a key figure in Biden’s primary win in South Carolina, Clyburn has a close relationship with the president.

According to Clyburn, getting a candidate ready for a debate can be challenging. It’s not just about providing them with the necessary information, but also honing their style and teaching them how to deflect. Clyburn noted that Joe Biden lacked these skills during the recent debate, which was in contrast to his performance four years ago.

Although the debate had little impact on voters who had already made up their minds about their preferred candidate, both campaigns saw the opportunity to sway independent and undecided voters in their direction on Thursday night. When questioned about the potential consequences of Biden’s subpar performance on these voters, Clyburn shifted the focus to the candidates’ records, suggesting that voters should consider both men’s past achievements and actions.

Clyburn advised independents and undecided voters to consider the candidates’ records. Although Biden’s performance during the debate was not his best, Clyburn attributed it to over-preparation. As someone with experience in debate preparation, he noticed Biden struggling to recall words, phrases, and numbers that he had memorized beforehand.

When Joe Biden arrived in North Carolina the following day, he was at his best, capturing the audience’s attention effortlessly, according to Clyburn. When Bash suggested that Biden may have used a teleprompter during his rally in North Carolina on Friday, she shared her belief.

Clyburn expressed his unwavering support for Biden as the Democratic nominee. He emphasized the importance of evaluating the track records of both Biden and Trump rather than solely focusing on one poor night. Clyburn urged voters to take a holistic approach and consider the entirety of each candidate’s experience and accomplishments.

He believes that a person’s past performance is the best indicator for their future behavior. Looking at the current front runners of their respective parties, Clyburn sees many indications of what their future behavior could be. He is confident that Biden will not have any problem leading for the next four years.

Clyburn affirmed that Joe Biden’s record will speak for itself, and people will see the stark contrast between him and Trump’s four years in office. According to him, this will be crucial not only for domestic matters but also for international relations.
