A high-speed police pursuit concludes in Trenton, and a stolen tractor is recovered

A high-speed automobile chase ended in Trenton at noon on August 2. Preston Medjo of Hammond, Oregon, stole a vehicle from Temple, Georgia, and authorities in Fort Payne, Alabama, started a pursuit in Dekalb County. The Dade County Sheriff’s Office was told that the pursuit was heading north on Highway 11.

Sheriff Ray Cross and the Trenton City Police Department set up spike strips at Edgewood Baptist Church as part of the pursuit in Rising Fawn. Trenton PD’s spike strip hit all four tires of the stolen car, and DCSO deputies called it quits in front of JB’s Variety Store.

Medjo is being held in the Dade County Jail on felony charges filed by the DCSO and the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is just another example of the amazing and productive relationship we have with numerous surrounding agencies,” Sheriff Cross stated. They know they can count on us, we know they can count on us, and the criminals know Dade County means business!”

On August 5, the departments collaborated once more to intercept a huge U-Haul truck transporting a stolen Kubota MX5400.

The tractor had gone missing in Alabama the week before, and the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office had issued a notice about it. On Saturday, the owner followed the U-Haul near to Back Valley Road and phoned Trenton Police. Trenton police then notified Dade County authorities.

Deputies discovered the U-Haul parked at a Byrds Chapel Drive property and confronted the suspect. After a scuffle, deputies apprehended the defendant, who is currently being held in the Dade County Jail on various felony charges. The tractor was returned to the rightful owner.

Cross said, “A huge thanks to the Trenton PD detective for giving us the heads up on this and also for coming out to the scene. Another big thanks to my deputies for continuing to ensure crime doesn’t go unaddressed in Dade County.”
