Police data declined to reinstate bond for a fire medic accused of stealing drugs

DOTHAN, Ala. –  A former fire medic charged with stealing sensitive law enforcement information and drugs will remain in jail as he awaits trial, according to a judge’s recent ruling.

Jesse Ryan Taylor had hoped to be released on bond, but Houston County Judge Christopher K. Richardson revoked Taylor’s bond after a hearing on August 8, 2023.

Taylor was already on bond for Fentanyl trafficking when he was charged with illegally intercepting law enforcement data. At the time, he was working for Rickey Stokes News, whose owner, Rickey Stokes, has not been implicated.

The judge’s latest ruling, following a mandatory hearing, makes the decision to revoke Taylor’s bond final.

According to Houston County Assistant District Attorney Michaela Pope, Taylor violated his bail conditions, which led the judge to keep him behind bars. However, Taylor’s attorney, Derek Yarbrough, argued that Taylor had years of public service and had not been convicted of any crimes.

Taylor had also contracted with the Houston County Emergency Management while working for RSN. The agency shares a building with 911 dispatchers, one of whom allegedly conspired with Taylor to obtain messages intended for law enforcement.

The dispatcher, Amy Johnson Granberry, is on bond and faces charges of computer tampering. After Taylor’s arrest, Houston County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Judah resigned.

County Chairman Brandon Shoupe said he had instructed Judah to dispose of Taylor’s services.

Taylor’s trial date has not been set, which means he is likely to remain in jail for the time being.
