Just Getting Started: Naz’s Halal Plans Major Restaurant Expansion Across Montgomery County and Maryland

It all started last year with a location in Burtonsville, and that’s when Naz’s Halal Food entered the D.C. metro area for the first time.

Hailing from Queens, New York, two cousins Naz and Kareem began Naz’s Halal Food as a food truck operation in 2009. The truck was intended to only perform as a side business from their 9 a.m.-to-5 p.m. jobs as New York City Public School teachers. Less than ten years later, the company’s first brick and mortar restaurant opened in January of 2018.

Now, the Halal restaurant group is expanding across Montgomery County and Maryland with plans for nine more locations. We previously reported a Rockville and Germantown location are in the works, but additional locations are at various points in development, including in Takoma Park and Northern Silver Spring.

The company serves a wide variety of Halal foods, including several types of rice platters ranging from chicken and kofta kabab to falafel over rice. They also serve gyros, sandwiches, buffalo wings, and baklava for dessert.
