The world’s largest hospitality company, Marriott International (NYSE: MAR), officially opened its 8000th property right in Montgomery County next to its new 22-story, 785,000 square foot office headquarters at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue.
The highly anticipated hotel's name is Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ and is located at 7707 Woodmont Ave. It includes 245 guest rooms, an 8,000 square-foot state-of-the-art meeting space and three restaurant concepts wrapped in a LEED Gold certified building.
“Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ brings a fresh vision for hospitality to Bethesda’s burgeoning downtown district, with inspired spaces and locally crafted experiences,” said Katarina Burns, General Manager, Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ.
“We look forward to creating meaningful connections with our guests and community while serving as a hub for business and leisure travelers.”
Bestowed upon Bethesda is the 95-year-old company’s headquarters hotel and the 8000th property worldwide. The hotel is owned by Washington, D.C.-based The Bernstein Companies who demolished the Bethesda Court Hotel on site to make way for the Marriott International global headquarters along with partner Boston Properties who is managing the development of the office portion.
In addition, three Maryland-inspired restaurants debuted at the hotel. Led by Executive Chef Dupree Braswell, the Greatroom lobby bar has indoor/outdoor spaces and is focused on cocktails for patrons to enjoy, surrounded by the design and ambiance of an Italian Piazza. The Seventh State — named in honor of Maryland being the seventh state admitted to the Union after the ratification of the U.S. Constitution — will include menu items such as Panuozzo with locally sourced ingredients. Finally, Hip Flask is Bethesda’s first high-rise rooftop bar and overlooks the transformation that has taken place in downtown Bethesda.
Marriott also included a House of Kindness opening package dedicated to the Bethesda name which holds that meaning in Hebrew. The package includes 15% off the best available rate (Marriott Bonvoy members get an additional 5% off), 20% off food and beverage and an upgrade to a top-floor view room.
