At least one person was killed and six others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on a snowy stretch of interstate in western Pennsylvania early Wednesday, according to officials.
At approximately 5:45 a.m., a crash took place at mile marker 14 on eastbound Interstate 80 near Mercer. As a result of the crash, a section of the road spanning approximately 11 miles (17.7 kilometers) remained closed several hours later. At midafternoon, officials had yet to announce a timeframe for when the road would reopen.
According to Pennsylvania State Trooper Bertha Cazy, at least eight vehicles, including tractor-trailers and passenger cars, were involved in the wreck.
According to Cazy, the crash resulted in the death of one individual at the scene, while at least six others suffered minor injuries.
