A firefighter injured in the Montgomery fire has returned home

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A fireman from Montgomery who got injured in a fatal house fire has gone home.

Montgomery Fire Rescue says that DeAndre M. Hartman left UAB Hospital in Birmingham at 2 p.m. on Thursday. He was taken back to Montgomery from there. He stopped quickly at his duty station, Fire Station #12, before going home.

Hartman and four other department members suffered injuries in a house fire that killed a child. Hartman, who is 34 years old, was badly burned around his arms. He was taken to UAB’s trauma ICU, where he was sedated for many days and hospitalized for weeks.

Captain Donald L. Crenshaw, 45, another injured fireman, went back to his home in Montgomery in May. He was treated for second and third-degree burns on 20% of his body at UAB’s Intensive Burn Unit for two weeks.

The reason for the fire has not been made public. MFR says that the probe is being helped by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
